Milwaukee, WI GTG, Saturday, Nov. 7th @ West Allis Auto ClubThis is a featured page

Event details

Building use provided by - West Allis Auto Club (aka WAAC), 1721 South 100th Street, West Allis, WI 53214. (See map at http://www.westallisautoclub.com/contact.html)
Event host/coordinator - Chris Roth (6x6man), 262-617-1929
Date - Saturday, Nov. 7th, 2009
Hours - Club will open 8:00 am. We ask that work be finished by 8:00 pm.

Just a couple simple guidelines:

  • The West Allis Auto Club asks that you bring a bag of groceries OR give a $10 donation. These proceeds will be donated to the local food pantry in West Allis.

  • No alcohol allowed on premises

  • Everyone attending needs to sign a liability waiver. Anyone under the age of 18 that plans to attend without their parent/legal guardian, needs to print a hard copy of this document, have their parent/legal guardian sign it, and bring it along. Fail to do this and sorry, but you will be asked to leave.

  • Use of certain club equipment (basically things that use consumables) requires the payment of a small fee. These fees are very reasonable, typically between $1.00 - $3.00, and must be paid in cash. For example: Oil/filter/fluid disposal - $1, Torch - $2/5 min., Wire welder - $3/5 min, Sand blaster - $1/30 min, Steam cleaner - $5/30 min.

  • No vehicles can be left in the shop after the event ends

Directions

The West Allis Auto Club is located at 1721 South 100th Street, West Allis, WI 53214. (See map at http://www.westallisautoclub.com/contact.html)

If you are familiar with the Milwaukee area, we are located just south of the 'Zoo Interchange'.

From I-894, take the Greenfield Ave exit, head west one block to the first set of lights (not counting the lights at the on/off ramps), this will be 101st Street. Turn left (south) on to 101st Street. Just before 101st Street dead ends in the cul-de-sac, turn left (east) on to Maple St. Take Maple St to 100th Street, turn right (south) on to 100th Street which is the entrance to the club parking lot. Use the service door entrance at the north end of the building.

Parking

If the parking lot along the east side of the building is full, please park in the cul-de-sac or along 101st Street. Please DO NOT park in the lot to the south of the building (under the billboard.) We share the building with the West Allis Woodworkers Club, and the lot to the south of the building is for their use. Please do not park along Maple St or on 100th Street as they are narrow to begin with.

Shop Info

As for tools, like most GTG's, whatever you can bring of your own the better (please mark/identify your own tools.) The club is heated if the weather is cold (which it probably will be by Nov 7.), it is equipped with two hoists (one drive-on type, one two post type.), plenty of compressed air, parts washing tank, hyd press, oxy/acy torch, MIG and stick welders, sand blasting cabinet, spray booth, large (walk-in) powder coating oven, (4) floor jacks, (many) jack stands, (2) impact wrenches, COATS Tire Changer Machine and Wheel Balancer, Strut spring compressor, steam cleaner, gas caddy, transmission jack, etc. We do have an OBD I and II scan tool, but no VAG-COM. We do have many odd tools, (pulley pullers, ring compressors, timing lights, etc.), if you need something specific, ask and I'll let you know if we have one. I will warn you though, most of our stuff is for domestic and 'classic' (some call them klunker) vehicles.

You should plan on bringing your own hand tools (wrenches, screw drivers, etc.) The club does have containers for disposing of fluids/filters (no coolant flushes with the garden hose please, makes too much waste. Disposal of coolant caught, like during a TB/water pump change is acceptable though.)

Since we are a not for profit organization, a small fee is charged for items that use consumables (torch $2/5 min, welder $3/5 min, sand blaster $1/30 min, $1 fluid/filter disposal, etc.) We do have a computer in the office, but no internet connection available. There is a TV in the office and we do have Dish service.

As of 9/14/09, our drive-on hoist is out of service due to a lift cable showing signs of wear. This means that we are currently down to the one functioning two post hoist at this time. We are currently looking into the costs involved in repairing or replacing this drive-on hoist. I'm doing everything possible to ensure that we will have a drive-on hoist available for this event. If we can't use the hoist as a hoist, we can at least use it as a bay.

Depending on the work being done, we should be able to get up to 6 cars in the mechanical shop at a time. There are only two overhead doors into the mechanical shop, so we will need to coordinate the longer jobs in the front stalls.

You MUST check with Chris Roth (6x6man) before pulling any cars into the building.

Rocket Chip Waiting List

If you would like Jeff to work his magic on your TDI, place your name on the following list. We need at least 10 NEW tunes to make it worth Jeff's time to attend this event. Please place RE-TUNES at the bottom of the list. Please be aware that this list is not the order in which Jeff will perform the tunes, it is simply to know how many people are looking for Jeff's services. Jeff starts work when he is ready to do so. Jeff will have a sign in sheet at the event that will determine the order in which he performs the tunes. Consideration will be given new tunes vs. re-tunes, and to people that have long drives to get back home.

Food List

**** NO Fermented Beverages allowed. Sorry, this is Club policy. ****
Grills will be available for cooking out. The club has a microwave and a range for heating items but you'll need to bring your own pots/pans. The oven portion of the range works but it is used for baking small powder coated items, but I suppose it could be used for keeping things warm. Soda machine on site, (non-alcoholic) carry-ins are allowed though. There are many fast food places along Hwy 100 (8 blocks west of club) in West Allis.

RV parking

There is an RV park on the Wisconsin State Fair Park grounds which is close to the club. For more deatails visit http://www.wistatefair.com/building_facilities/RV_park.html

There is also a Wal-Mart not too far away. Not sure if this location allows overnight parking. Here's the contact info if you would like to check, (414) 529-0455, 4500 South 108Th Street Milwaukee, WI 53228.
(Happened to be here the other day. I drove through the parking lot looking for 'No overnight parking' signs, didn't see any. I saw a security patrol vehicle so I stopped him and asked if overnight parking was allowed at this location. He said that normally it was but you should check in with the manager in charge at that time. 6x6man 9/15/09)
