PEOPLE WHO BRING TOOLS:
I suggest you mark your tools in some way (especially extension cords) so they can be identified. It'll be easier to determine what belongs to whom at the GTG, and after when I start finding things that don't belong to me. I really don't need any more stuff.
Hotel Info
For anyone coming in from further out, and interested in staying over, here's a list of what 's available in Fond Du Lac.
- Comfort Inn: 888 522 9472 / 920 921 4000 local. This was the Baymont, 20+ years old, near the 41/151 interchange, on the west side of 41. Has pool. Have had business associates stay there; no complaints.
- Holiday Inn: 888 465 4329 / 920 923 1440 local. This place is pretty old and I don't think it has been redone since the 70's. "Next door" to the Baymont. Was (is?) a Holidome, has pool, lounge, restaurant.
- Country Inn and Suites: 800 456 4000 / 920 924 8800. This is the newest one in town, maybe 5 yrs old. It's at the 41/Hickory St exit, about a mile south of the HI and Baymont.
- Days Inn: 920 923 6790. On the east frontage road, at the 41 / Johnson St.(Hwy 23) interchange, just south of Johnson St. Been there a long time.
- Econo Lodge: 800 424 6423 / 920 923 2020. East of 41 on Johnson St. (Hwy 23). Been there forever.
- Microtel: 888 771 7171 / 920 929 4000. Less than 10 yrs old (I think). Also at the 41/151 interchange, on the east side of 41
- Ramada: 920 923 3000. This is the old grand hotel in downtown FdL. Right smack in the middle of town, on Main St. Not bad, sister and brother-in-law stayed there a couple times during family functions. Good place if you want to party in FdL; all the bars are downtown. Downside, can be noisy if room is on Main St. Has pool, health club.
- Super 8: 920 922 1088. On the east frontage road, at the 41 / Johnson St.(Hwy 23) interchange, just north of Johnson St. Been there about 15 years.
None of these places are more than a mile away from the shop, all are easy to get to.
Directions
I'm not hard to find. The address is 196 Western Ave., on the corner of Western Ave. and Brooke St. if you want to
Google,
Map Quest, etc. I'm in the Metalink building/facility. The building is a block long - east to west, and about 1/3 block wide - north to south. There is a large storage/parking area all along the south/back side of the building.
Here's a Google Map;
I am located on the east end of the building, on the back/south side, off Brooke St. There is a small 8' garage door and a man-door on this side, that's me. I'll have signs out.
Now here's how to get to Fondy, and to the shop:
From the North: Take US 41 south. Exit at the Johnson St (Hwy 23) exit. Go left (east) on Johnson, cross over 41, and turn right (south) on Pioneer (the east frontage rd, by Schreiners restaurant). The second street on the left (there are no streets on the right) is Western, watch for the McClone Insurance Group sign. Turn left on Western. About a mile, and three stop signs later, you'll cross a set of RR tracks, and you'll see the plant ahead on the right. Turn right at the second street after the tracks. That's Brooke St, once you're past the building, turn right into the lot.
From the East: Come into town on Hwy 23 / Johnson St. The traffic light by the McDonalds is light number 1. The 4th light is Main St., there will be a new Walgreen's on your right, on the NW corner. (The old Walgreen's is on the left, across the street, on the SW corner.) The 5th light is three blocks ahead, so if you're not in the right lane, you should move over now. The 5th light, just before the bridge, is Military Rd. Turn right (north) on Military, DON'T GO OVER THE BRIDGE!!. Almost immediately, after you turn right on Military, you will turn left (west) on Kelly. Just after that there will be a stop sign, that is Brooke St. Turn left (south) on Brooke. Continue south, through the stop light (but only when it's green!). When you get to the stop sign you will see the plant office building (light blue and grey w/the Metalink sign) across the street on the right, SW corner. Go past the building and turn right, into the lot.
From the Southwest (Madison): Take US 151 north. When you get to the 151/41 interchange 151 will become Military Rd. and 151 will split off and join 41 south. Stay on MILITARY, and continue into town. From the South: Get off at the FIRST Military Rd exit by Mercury Marine. From the South & Southwest combined: Continue into town on Military, past Fleet Farm. About a mile from 41, you'll cross a set of RR tracks, go through a traffic light where Military jinks to the left. Two blocks further up you will see Credit Union One on the left, on Wilkins St. The next street on the left, and it comes up fast, is Brooke. Turn left on Brooke and almost immediately turn left again, into the lot. I just tried these directions from the south (was in the area anyway), and while they are technically correct, I thought they could use some streamlining to follow while driving.
Exit Highway 41 at Military Road - TURN RIGHT at end of exit
Follow Military Road for ~1 Mile until you cross RR tracks - Slow down and look ahead for BROOKE in ~2 blocks
TURN LEFT on BROOKE than IMMEDATELY TURN LEFT into parking lot
Hope that helps - Fix Until Broke
